Flexible graphite gaskets are made by punching or cutting pure graphite plates, which have good corrosion resistance, high/low temperature resistance, good compression resilience and high strength. Various circular and complex geometric gaskets are widely used in pipelines, valves, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, condensers, generators, air compressors, exhaust pipes, refrigerators, etc.

Flexible graphite, also known as expanded graphite, is made from flake graphite and undergoes chemical treatment to generate interlayer compounds. At high temperatures of 800-1000 ℃, the interlayer compounds turn into gases, causing the flake graphite to expand about 200 times and become thermally conductive like cotton, overcoming the disadvantage of brittleness and thus exhibiting good sealing performance. Loose and porous, full of elasticity. Working under high temperature, high pressure or radiation conditions, without decomposition, deformation or aging, with stable chemical properties. The birth of flexible graphite marks the end of the rigid era in the field of chemical sealing. Compared with asbestos gaskets, flexible graphite has the following obvious advantages:

1、 No radiation or pollution. Flexible graphite does not contain harmful substances to the human body, while asbestos products pose a risk of radiation to the human body and can also pollute the environment.

2、 High temperature resistance. The flexible graphite reinforced composite gasket can withstand high temperatures of 1650 ℃, and even if the chemical equipment melts, it remains intact. At 500 ℃, the crystalline water inside asbestos products will decompose, causing them to pulverize and lose their effectiveness.

3、 Widely applicable. Flexible graphite can withstand most chemical media, including those used in radioactive chemical media, except for strong oxidizing acids. However, asbestos products have poor adaptability and cannot be used in radioactive media. Some chemical towers, heat exchangers, etc. require non insulated connection parts, which can be achieved with flexible graphite, but not with slate products.

4 Easy and fast to use. The gasket coefficient of flexible graphite is only half of that of asbestos products, which means that to achieve the same sealing effect, the force required to tighten the screws can be much smaller. In addition to the obvious characteristics mentioned above, flexible graphite also has excellent sealing performance, compressibility, good elasticity, and oxidation resistance. It has strong self lubrication and plasticity, as well as good conductivity, high specific gravity, and high density. It can be used to make various types of pipelines, flange gaskets, etc. for adjusting diesel engines, compressors, etc.
